Features of Our Support Groups...

Below contains detailed information for admin and members with regards to managing and interacting with our support groups.

Support Group Advertising & Packages

Our Support Group Packages

Prior to creating a support group, admin must select a package. We will always offer a free package for support groups. We do however, offer premium packages for those group administrators that require more options. For example, we offer a 5 day spotlight package, and a 5 day featured support group package. In both cases, support groups will be displayed more prominently across the community, but mainly in the support groups home and browse pages, as well as on the main homepage.

Spotlight means that support groups are shown on the support groups home page and in the sidebars on the browse support groups page. A slider also appears above our support group listings. All members will view these spotlight groups as they have to scroll down to view the available support groups.

Featured means that support groups are shown on the homepage (though in a second tab which members must click on to view) and in the sidebars on the browse support groups page.

Advertising a Support Group

Only support group admin may advertise their support group. Advertising can be done via the support group profile. There, admin will be able to see a 'Sample Ad', under which they have the option to create an ad. Members may also create an ad via our advertising pages. We advise group admin to view those pages for more information prior to creating an ad.

Advertisements on Support Groups

Advertisements appear on all support group tabs. We can offer an option where admin can pay for a package that doesn't show ads. We do not offer this currently, however, should there be interest (please contact us), we will create a paid package for this.

Support Group Information

Description, Tags & Profile Fields

Description

It's important for admin to describe what and who the support group is for. The description does not need to be long at all as it should succinctly describe the group in a few sentences that members can read on the Browse Support Groups page.

Tags

Tags should be added which fully describe the support group. If you have browsed our community, you will know of popular tags. You may create a movement by creating your own tag which you should encourage group members to use in their community listings. On the homepage, if it is popular, it will trend and members will be able to click to view all content under that tag.

Profile Fields

There are profile fields which may differ depending on the category selected. Important field include whether the support group is an online group, or an online and meetup group. Members may want real life contact and so it's important to add whether you provide this.

Location

Group admin may choose whether to add a location to their group. This is important for 'online and meetup' support groups, as it informs members of what groups are close to them. A specific location need not be added, group admin may just state their borough or city, but boroughs are best due to the size of our cities, members would prefer to see who is closest to their area).

We advise online only support groups to not add a location, as registered members may become confused if they believe it is for meetups. Should you become a meetup group, you may enter a location at any time in your dashboard. Note, multiple locations may be added to support groups.

Privacy

Depending on your chosen package, listings and media can be added to your support group profile page. When creating a group, admin can select privacy options as to who can post listings and media to their group.

Other Options

Allowing Members to Join a Support Group

Admin have the choice to allow members to join the support group or not. Admin may want to restrict the support group so that no one may join except those that they invite. Or admin may want to enable the 'approve member' option, so members may click 'join', but admin needs to approve their membership.

Allowing Members to Invite Other Members to a Support Group

As admin, you have the choice of whether you want to allow members to invite other members to join the support group or not.

Support Group Admin & Members

Admin

Who Are Group Administrators?

Multiple support group administrators may be added to a group, but of course, the group must be created by one registered member first. They will then be able to add new admin by clicking the 'Admin' tab on the dashboard of their support group. From their they may enter the name of the new admin. It's important for admin to know that new administrators to a group will have the same privileges that they have including deleting the group. NB. any admin added must be a member of the group before becoming admin.

Adding Featured Admin

Admin may want some administrators to be featured, especially f the group has several administrators. Admin and featured admin will appear on the 'Admin' tab found on the support group profile.

Members

Who Are Group Members?

Depending on your chosen package, members can be added to your support group profile page i.e. the option for members to 'join' you group.

Allocating Member Categories

Admin may create member categories for their members. For example, in a group about yoga, admin may create member categories such as 'beginner', 'intermediate', 'advanced'. When non-group members click 'join', they will be prompted to select a member category. In the 'members' tab on the group profile, members may be viewed according to their member category. All members to all support groups may be viewed by clicking the 'Members' menu link found on most pages of 'Support Groups'.

Messaging Group Members

Admin can message their group members (those who have joined). They can message, all group members, members within a specific member category (see member categories above) or individual members by name.

Featured & Highlighted Members

Admin may make certain members featured or highlighted and such members can be searched for on this basis.

Form

There is a form on ever support group profile so members can contact its owner. Admin may rename this or even remove this. Go to the groups dashboard and to the 'Apps' tab. Click rename, or click manage to see further options.

Support Group Content: Forum, Notes, Polls, Offers, Reviews

Privacy: Forum, Notes, Polls, Offers, Reviews

Depending on your chosen package, a discussion forum, notes tab, polls tab, offers tab and reviews tab will be present on the support group profile page. When creating a group, admin can select privacy options as to who can post any of the above to their group and a link to post any of this content will only be available to those members with permissions as selected by admin.

What is the Discussion Forum for Support Groups?

The discussion forum is separate from our welcome forum and specific to each support group. Similar to our Welcome forum, admin has the option to make posts stick remain at the top. Members can receive notifications should anyone reply to a post that they created or a post that they like (they can watch topics).

What are Notes?

You can post photos to your notes, and notes written by all support groups may be viewed by clicking the 'Notes' menu link found on most pages of 'Support Groups'.

Should I Write a Resource or Note?

Let me give you an example of a support group I created, 'Adult Ballet Lovers with a Mental Illness'. I wanted to write about how much classes were. As a resource, this wouldn't help our members with mental health issues in any way, so it was written as a note. I wanted to write an article entitled, 'How Adult Ballet Classes Can Aid Mental Health'. This would be beneficial for all members to read and is relevant to mental health, mental illness and mental wellbeing and thus, this was written as a resource.

Please think, 'Does this article have anything to do with aiding members mental health, mental illness and mental wellbeing?' If not, it would be best to write a note for your group. If yes, please write a resource that will be available to everyone.

What are Polls?

Polls added by all support groups may be viewed by clicking the 'Polls' menu link found on most pages of 'Support Groups'.

What are Offers?

Offers added by all support groups may be viewed by clicking the 'Offers' menu link found on most pages of 'Support Groups'.

What are Reviews?

Reviews can be added by group members for a support group. They provide the community with insight as to how beneficial the support group is and hopefully, encouraging them to join. But unfortunately, they may be used to expose admin to e.g. limited posted, irrelevant posting etc. We suggest you remain open and transparent with your group members. Let them know your posting schedule, only post things that are relevant and encourage your members to do the same.

Support Group Listings: Journals, Resources, Books, Products

Privacy: Listings

Depending on your chosen package, listings can be added to your support group profile page. When creating a group, admin can select privacy options as to who can post a listing to their group and a link to post a listing will only be available to those members selected by admin.

About Resources: Should I Write a Resource or Note?

Please read this section in the notes tab.

Adding Listings from the Musing Minds UK Community

Admin have the option to add listings written and added by registered members.

In the dashboard of your support group, go to 'Apps' and scroll down to 'Add a Journal Entry', 'Add a Resource Article', 'Add a Book Listing', 'Add a Product'. From there, admin may start typing the name of a listing, or a keyword. It will autosuggest a listing that has been written/added, and admin can select this listing. It will then appear on their group profile in the appropriate tab i.e. 'Journals', 'Resources', 'Books', 'Products' as well as on the settings icon found on the groups cover photo.

Admin, and those allowed to post listings to a group may also click the appropriate listings tab from the group profile. Note that this tab will only appear once admin has added at least one listing from the dashboard. Once a listing is created using this link on the group profile page, a 'Support Groups' tab will appear on that listing profile, linking back to the group where that listing was posted from.

Searching through Listings

Within each tab, there is an option to search listings. Registered members may type in a keyword(s) and listings that match that keyword(s) will appear. This is extremely useful if there are many listings added to a support group. Listings can also be listed according to whether they are 'most recent', 'most viewed', 'most commented' or 'most liked'.

Support Group Events

Privacy: Events

Depending on your chosen package, events can be added to your support group profile page. When creating a group, admin can select privacy options as to who can post events to their group and a link to post an event will only be available to those members selected by admin.

Adding Events: Associating an Event with Your Support Group

Events can be added either from our events pages, or from the specific support group profile (if you have permission) using the 'add an event' link under the events tab or in the settings menu found on the cover photo. When admin or those with permission create an event from a support group, it will automatically be linked, however, when creating it from the events pages, the creator must change the 'Host' to 'Support Groups' and type in the name of the already created group. More information will be given when creating an event.

Support Group Creative Stories

Privacy: Creative Stories

Depending on your chosen package, creative stories can be added to your support group profile page. When creating a group, admin can select privacy options as to who can post a creative story to their group and a link to post a creative story will only be available to those members selected by admin.

Please make sure the audio file is compressed in order to save space on our server, as well as to not eat into your storage space limit which can be found in the details of your membership plan as found in settings.

Support Groups

What are Child Support Groups?

When creating a group, admin can select permissions as to who can create a child support group of their group. Their group will be the parent, though the child group will belong to whomever created it. Child groups are useful for related groups. Child and parent support groups will be shown in the sidebar of the group's profile page.

Adding Other Support Groups?

Admin may also select other support groups to add to a 'Support Groups' tab on their group profile. This tab will only be available once a support group has been added. It may be added because it is similar, or because it provides a benefit to their group members. Admin may add these support groups by clicking the settings icon on their cover photo and selecting 'Link to Your Group'.
